Travis Hunter, a standout player from Colorado, is determined to break the mold as a two-way player in the NFL. Known for his prowess both as a wide receiver and cornerback, Hunter aims to carry this dual role into professional football. “Nobody has done it but I feel like I have put my body through a lot,” Hunter expressed during the NFL Scouting Combine. He believes that despite the rigorous demands of playing both positions, he can manage with proper body care.
The Pittsburgh Steelers may be in search of a cornerback with Donte Jackson’s free agency approaching on March 12. While general manager Omar Khan acknowledged conversations with Jackson about potentially returning, he noted that “all options are on the table.” However, given Hunter’s impressive track record at Colorado—96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver, along with notable defensive stats—he is likely to be drafted before the Steelers’ first pick at 21st overall.
Hunter’s unique ability to excel in both offensive and defensive roles could make him a top-5 draft pick or even the first-overall selection. “I’ve got my own unique case that I play both sides of the ball,” Hunter stated regarding his prospects.
Meanwhile, Michigan’s Will Johnson remains confident in his standing as one of the top cornerbacks available in this draft. “A lot of respect to him,” Johnson said of Hunter, acknowledging his accomplishments while asserting his own abilities.
Both players opted out of participating in on-field workouts at Lucas Oil Stadium during the Combine, preferring instead to showcase their skills at their respective pro days. Johnson cited recovery from a turf toe injury as his reason for delaying participation.
