Allegheny Health Network announced on Apr. 8 that three of its hospitals have been selected as winners in The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania’s annual Achievement Awards program. AHN Allegheny General Hospital, AHN Grove City Hospital, and AHN Wexford Hospital were among the twelve hospitals across the state to receive this recognition for their innovative approaches to patient care.

The recognition highlights efforts by these hospitals to improve patient outcomes and safety while addressing public health needs. The awards program reviewed 125 entries from across Pennsylvania, aiming to spotlight those institutions that demonstrate excellence in care quality, operations, and community partnership.

AHN Allegheny General Hospital received the Excellence in Care Award for its work advancing early mobility for critically ill patients on Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (VA-ECMO), a life-support technique used when both heart and lungs need support. This initiative involved a multidisciplinary approach designed to improve survival rates and discharge outcomes.

AHN Grove City Hospital was also honored with the Excellence in Care Award for leading a quality initiative focused on early sepsis detection and coordinated evidence-based care. Meanwhile, AHN Wexford Hospital earned the In Safe Hands Award by introducing standardized aspiration risk screening and swallow evaluation protocols for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), aiming to reduce hospital readmissions.

“We are incredibly proud to see three of our hospitals recognized by HAP for their unwavering dedication to innovation and excellence,” said Ezz-Eldin (Dean) Moukamal, MD, FHM, chief quality officer at AHN. “These awards are a testament to their care teams’ hard work, clinical expertise and compassionate care, which collectively exemplify AHN’s mission to deliver the highest standard of health care to our communities.”

The winning hospitals will be formally recognized at HAP’s annual Leadership Summit scheduled for June 2–3 in Hershey.
