This week in City of Pittsburgh history.

Born in Pittsburgh January 15, 1953; known for football

Randall Lee White was born in Pittsburgh on January 15, 1953. He played college football at the University of Maryland from 1972 to 1974, where he earned several awards, including the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award. White was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 1975 and played as a defensive tackle until 1988. During his NFL career, he was named co-MVP of Super Bowl XII and earned nine consecutive Pro Bowl selections. He recorded 111 sacks and played in three Super Bowls and six NFC Championship Games. White was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1994. Known by the nickname “The Manster,” he also trained in Thai boxing. White has a lasting connection to Pittsburgh, where he was born, and his career remains a significant part of football history.
