Born February 14, 1960: Known for NFL career
Jim Kelly was born on February 14, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He grew up in East Brady, where he excelled in football and basketball at East Brady High School. Kelly played college football at the University of Miami, passing for over 5,200 yards and 33 touchdowns. In 1983, he was selected 14th overall in the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills but initially joined the Houston Gamblers in the USFL. After the USFL folded, he joined the Bills in 1986. Kelly led Buffalo to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990 to 1993. He was named to five Pro Bowls and led the league in passing touchdowns in 1991. He retired with 35,467 passing yards and 237 touchdowns. In 2002, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Kelly’s early years in Western Pennsylvania connect him to the region’s tradition of producing notable quarterbacks.
