Pittsburgh Penguins forward Tanner Howe has successfully undergone anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery. This update was provided today by the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Kyle Dubas. The procedure took place yesterday at UPMC St. Margaret Harmar Outpatient Center and was performed by Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, the Penguins Head Team Physician and part of UPMC Sports Medicine.
The estimated recovery period for Howe is around nine months. Howe, who is 19 years old, just finished his fourth junior hockey season playing for the Calgary Hitmen and Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League. Drafted as a second-round pick, 44th overall, in the 2024 NHL Draft, Howe signed with Pittsburgh in July last year. He also played for Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.
