Linebacker T.J. Watt has joined the Pittsburgh Steelers’ training camp with a new four-year contract, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming 2025 season. “I just wanted the deal to get done,” Watt stated, emphasizing his eagerness to focus solely on football and eliminate distractions.
Watt is optimistic about the team’s offseason changes, which include several veteran additions aimed at achieving their goal of becoming Super Bowl champions. He looks forward to starting this journey at Saint Vincent College.
“I am excited about this new team,” said Watt. He acknowledged the presence of many new faces and emphasized that while teams may look good on paper, preparation in the coming weeks is crucial.
Since being drafted in 2017, Watt has been a key player for the Steelers’ defense. He holds the franchise record with 108 career sacks and achieved his 100th sack against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5 of the 2024 season. Watt reached this milestone in 109 games, second only to Hall of Famer Reggie White.
Despite numerous individual accolades, Watt’s primary ambition remains winning a championship. “I think that it’s the endless pursuit of it and just wanting to continue to do everything possible,” he said.
The Steelers have reinforced their defense by acquiring cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay, safety Juan Thornhill, and drafting defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. These moves reflect a strong commitment to strengthening their defensive capabilities.
“I think teams need to understand that when they come to Pittsburgh and play the Steelers, there’s a certain brand of football,” Watt remarked. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a hard-nosed approach on defense and setting clear goals.
Watt expressed confidence in holding each other accountable as a defensive unit and ensuring opponents recognize what they face when playing against the Steelers’ defense.
