Rep. Summer Lee, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district, has been vocal on various issues through her recent social media posts. She replaced former U.S. Congress member Mike Doyle in 2023 and has continued to advocate for workers’ rights and equality.
On May 6, 2025, Rep. Lee expressed gratitude to the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) for honoring her with the 2024 Legislative Leadership Award. In her tweet, she stated, “Thank you to @ISEA_Safety for honoring me and my staff with the 2024 Legislative Leadership Award.” She emphasized her commitment to ensuring workplace safety by saying, “Every worker deserves to feel safe on the job and to come home healthy after they clock out.”
Later that day, Lee voiced support for federal workers protesting on the Senate steps due to job terminations. Her post read: “Solidarity with the fired federal workers protesting on the Senate steps today.” She criticized current administrative actions as “illegal, dangerous, and cruel,” urging collective action: “We can organize and fight to restore jobs and funding with the power of the people—but only if we choose to use it.”
On May 7, 2025, Rep. Lee addressed wage disparities affecting working mothers in a tweet marking #MomsEqualPayDay. She highlighted ongoing inequalities: “Working moms earn less for more work—and the wage gap only widens for Black and brown mothers.” Her call to action included demands for equal pay, affordable childcare, and paid leave.
Summer Lee was born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and resides in Swissvale. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BA in 2009 and earned a JD from Howard University in 2015.
