U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who represents Pennsylvania’s 12th district in Congress, used her social media platform on January 13, 2026, to express criticism of recent Republican legislative efforts regarding childcare benefits and reiterated her stance on immigration enforcement.
In a post made at 9:18 p.m. UTC, Lee wrote, “…anyway, Abolish ICE.” At 10:03 p.m. UTC the same day, she addressed ongoing debates in Congress about employer-provided childcare benefits and overtime pay: “Too many parents are already forced to choose between paying rent and paying for childcare, yet Republicans are debating a bill that would allow employers to exclude childcare benefits from overtime pay. If they truly cared about children and families, they should pass my bill”. Later that evening at 11:14 p.m. UTC, Lee described her actions in the House: “I just tried to stop the House from voting on Republicans’ bill that would exclude childcare benefits from overtime pay. I wanted to replace it with a bill to make childcare actually affordable for working families. No surprise Republicans rejected it.”
Lee has served as the U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th District since 2023 after replacing Mike Doyle. Prior to her current role in Congress, she was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University (2009) and a JD from Howard University (2015).
