Rep. Summer Lee, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district, has recently expressed her views on several pressing issues through social media. Her posts touch upon topics such as government actions affecting international students, skin cancer awareness, and housing rights.
On May 22, 2025, Rep. Summer Lee commented on actions taken by the Trump administration regarding international students at Harvard University. She stated that “Harvard stood up to government overreach—and now the Trump admin is retaliating by targeting international students.” Lee characterized this move as “political revenge” and criticized the use of international students as “bargaining chips for those in power.”
The following day, May 23, 2025, Rep. Lee addressed the issue of skin cancer in a tweet during Skin Cancer Awareness Month. She highlighted that “skin cancer is one of the most common — and preventable — cancers in the U.S.” However, she pointed out disparities in access to protection and early detection across different communities. Lee encouraged sharing information and proactive measures like checking one’s skin.
Later on May 23, 2025, Rep. Lee discussed housing rights in another post. She questioned the current narrative around housing by stating that if considering housing a human right is “radical,” then “maybe we need to stop letting billionaires define the word.” She criticized economic inequality by noting that wealthy individuals possess significant resources yet still seek more.
Rep. Summer Lee has served in Congress since replacing Mike Doyle in 2023. Prior to her congressional role, she was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Howard University.
