U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district, addressed issues ranging from public broadcasting cuts to local community services in a series of tweets on July 31, 2025.
In her first post at 15:23 UTC, Lee highlighted the impact of federal funding reductions on WQED, a Pittsburgh-based public broadcaster. She wrote, “WQED is where steelworkers learned algebra after their shifts, where kids met Mister Rogers, and today, where they meet Daniel Tiger. Now, after Trump’s cuts to public broadcasting, they’re forced to lay off workers and will lose $1.8M a year. It’s about power—and who this https://t.co/Bqq1uNcnxF”.
Later that day at 16:30 UTC, Lee promoted an upcoming charitable event for families in need: “This Saturday, from 9 to 11AM, Global Links & @wpa_diaperbank are back in McKeesport to provide free diapers to families in need at the McKeesport Area Senior High School. Grateful to all for making this possible! https://t.co/SME6BJDJb9”.
In another tweet posted at 21:08 UTC the same day, she praised the work being done by a local organization supporting older adults: “The folks at Vintage Senior Services are doing incredible work to create space for our seniors to thrive and connect. This is what it means to care for our elders with intention, community, and care. https://t.co/FfVOFcKlXu”.
Lee has represented Pennsylvania’s 12th District in Congress since 2023 after previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 through 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, she holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Howard University.
