On May 15, 2025, Rep. Lee highlighted historical injustices sanctioned by the federal government such as slavery and Jim Crow laws. She emphasized that these injustices persist today and stated that it is time for the government to address this debt owed to Black America. Summer Lee was born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and resides in Swissvale. A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a BA in 2009 and holding a JD from Howard University since 2015, she began serving in Congress after replacing Mike Doyle in 2023.
