U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who represents Pennsylvania’s 12th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on August 24 and 25, 2025, addressing labor rights, educational equity, and immigration oversight.
On August 24, Lee congratulated Magee nurses on their recent union election victory. She stated: “Congratulations to Magee nurses on winning their union election! Now it’s time for @UPMC to recognize their contract and negotiate in good faith—for the good of the nurses, patients, and Western PA. Any attempts to delay or deny their voice are unacceptable.”
The following day, Lee highlighted the importance of school readiness for all children regardless of family income. In her tweet from August 25 she wrote: “Every child, no matter their family income, should be able to start school with the tools they need to thrive. I’m so grateful to @EduPartnership for meeting these needs—but we have to do more, which is why I plan to introduce the Access to School Supplies Act.”
Later that same day, Lee addressed immigration detention conditions by sharing her presence at a facility in Pennsylvania: “I’m at Moshannon Valley ICE Detention Center with @humanrights1st to do my job and conduct oversight regarding what we’ve heard about the horrific conditions here.”
Lee has served as U.S. Representative for Pennsylvania’s 12th District since 2023 after replacing Mike Doyle. She previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 until 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University (2009) and a JD from Howard University (2015).
