U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who represents Pennsylvania’s 12th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 11 and 12, 2026, addressing topics ranging from healthcare policy and antisemitism to international protests.
On January 11, Lee criticized her Republican colleagues in the House of Representatives regarding their approach to social benefit programs. She wrote, “While healthcare costs skyrocket and families struggle to make ends meet, House Republicans are more concerned with holding hearings demonizing social benefit programs than working towards solutions that lift up working people. They are failing their constituents.”
The following day, Lee responded to an incident involving Mississippi’s oldest and largest synagogue. In her tweet dated January 12, she stated: “This antisemitic attack on Mississippi’s oldest and largest synagogue is a painful reminder of the harms that hatred, bigotry & violence have on our communities. I will always stand with our Jewish neighbors as we continue fighting to dismantle antisemitism & all forms of white”.
Later on January 12, Lee commented on global movements for freedom and the actions of former President Donald Trump’s administration: “Across the world, from Iran to Minneapolis, people are fighting for freedom and against violence and authoritarianism. Yet as Trump praises the courage of Iranian citizens as they take to the streets, his own lawless agents are inciting violence against those protesting ICE”.
Summer Lee has served in Congress since replacing Mike Doyle in 2023. Prior to her election to Congress, she represented Pennsylvania’s 34th district in the state House from 2019 until 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale at age 35, Lee holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Howard University (JD).
