Representative Summer Lee, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th District since 2023, addressed a range of issues in her recent social media posts. Lee, who succeeded Mike Doyle and previously served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022, focused on economic justice, constituent services during a heat emergency, and legislative action on housing.
On July 10, 2025, Lee marked Black Women’s Equal Pay Day by stating, “It’s #BlackWomensEqualPayDay – a reminder that Black women are systematically underpaid for the same work as their counterparts. Black women deserve better, and today we recommit to fighting for economic security and equal pay.”
Later that day, she addressed local concerns regarding broken air conditioning at Ebenezer Towers: “My team and I are aware of the broken AC in the Ebenezer Towers that has left seniors and families struggling in this dangerous heat. Grateful to @RepAbney for helping us get fans to the residents yesterday! We will continue to work with the City + County to provide as much”. The post highlighted ongoing efforts to support affected residents amid high temperatures.
In another statement posted on July 10, Lee discussed her introduction of new federal legislation: “Today I introduced the HOMES Act with @RepEmiliaSykes so working families get a fair chance at homeownership. Too many people are being priced out by corporate-backed investors exacerbating the housing crisis. Homeownership should be a reality for families in PA-12 and across”.
Summer Lee was born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently resides in Swissvale. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a BA in 2009 and earned a JD from Howard University in 2015.
