U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district in Congress, used her social media platform on January 22, 2026 to address recent developments concerning education policy and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) practices.

In a post made at 15:12 UTC, Lee commented on the administration’s shift in stance regarding diversity and inclusion initiatives in schools: “This is a win for our schools, our kids, & our communities. Last year I demanded the administration stop their attacks on marginalized students. I’m relieved that the administration has finally realized the courts will not uphold their anti-diversity, equity, inclusion…”

Later that day at 20:30 UTC, she expressed concern about ICE’s actions toward children and protestors: “Kids like Liam should be learning to read and playing with their friends. Instead, ICE is traumatizing an entire generation who are living every day in fear. They’re kidnapping kids, assaulting protestors, deporting citizens–all funded by our taxpayer dollars. And today the…”

At 22:24 UTC on the same day, Lee announced legislative action with fellow members of Congress: “ICE continues to move with impunity—terrorizing communities, kidnapping children, and murdering our neighbors, all enabled by our tax dollars. I’m proud to join @repdeliaramirez and @RepYvetteClarke in introducing the Melt ICE Act as a step towards abolishing this lawless”.

Summer Lee was elected to represent Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district in 2023 after serving four years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022. She succeeded Mike Doyle as representative for her district. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale at age 35, Lee holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University (2009) and a JD from Howard University (2015).
