Summer Lee, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Pennsylvania’s 12th district, shared her thoughts and information through a series of tweets on May 5, 2025. Her statements addressed issues concerning student loans and SNAP benefits.
On May 5, 2025, Summer Lee expressed her concerns regarding the increasing cost of higher education and its implications for students. She stated: “Like most people, I didn’t want to have to take on student loans. The cost of higher education isn’t what it used to be, and cutting access to financial aid helps no one. These proposed changes will be catastrophic for the future of education and the future of Americans.”
In another tweet posted later that day, Lee provided practical assistance information for those affected by recent storms in Pennsylvania. She wrote: “To request your replacement benefits, contact your local County Assistance Office: Allegheny County: 412-565-2146 Westmoreland County: 724-832-5200” This guidance was intended for residents seeking replacement benefits.
Further addressing the impact of last week’s storm, she informed constituents about benefit replacements available due to food losses incurred during power outages. In her tweet, she stated: “After last week’s storm, many families lost food they purchased with SNAP benefits during the outages. Now, folks in PA-12 can request benefit replacements by May 30.”
Summer Lee has served in Congress since replacing Mike Doyle in 2023. Prior to this role, she was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 to 2022.
