U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district, addressed issues ranging from childcare affordability to public broadcasting and recent legislation in a series of posts on her social media account.
On July 16, 2025, Lee highlighted the ongoing struggles families face in accessing affordable childcare, stating, “Childcare—if folks can even find it—is keeping and pushing families into poverty. That’s why I reintroduced the Child Care for Working Families Act with @BobbyScott. Strong communities start with affordable care for families and liveable wages for caretakers.”
The following day, Lee criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding public broadcasting. In her post dated July 17, 2025, she wrote, “Trump is defunding public broadcasting because he doesn’t want people to ask questions, demand justice, or think critically. All part of his authoritarian playbook to silence and control the masses. A democracy needs strong, independent media—which I will continue to support.”
Later that same day, Lee commented on statements made by Republicans about a newly signed law associated with Trump. She posted on July 17, 2025: “Republicans are lying about Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill now signed into law. At best, their statements are misleading; at worst, they are outright lies. Let’s correct the record in my latest op-ed.”
Lee has represented Pennsylvania’s 12th district since 2023 after succeeding Mike Doyle in Congress. Prior to her tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives, she served in the Pennsylvania House from 2019 to 2022. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently residing in Swissvale, Lee holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Howard University (JD).
