U.S. Representative Summer Lee, who serves Pennsylvania’s 12th district, recently used her social media platform to address a range of issues including child care affordability, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and gun violence.
On August 26, 2025, Lee posted about her legislative efforts regarding child care: “No parent should be pushed into poverty for simply trying to afford care for their babies–our kids are too important. It was great to join ABK Learning & Development to discuss how my Child Care for Working Families Act will strengthen our communities with affordable child care”.
The following day, August 27, 2025, Lee commented on the situation in Gaza and called for action from U.S. officials: “As Israel starves babies in Gaza, this moment of manufactured crisis demands moral clarity & decisive action from the US. I’m joining @RepPressley & @RepPettersen in calling on @SecRubio to facilitate the delivery of aid & baby formula immediately.”
Later that same day, she responded to news of a shooting at Annunciation Catholic: “I am sick and heartbroken hearing about the horrific shooting at Annunciation Catholic. Gun violence is a policy choice. Everyone, especially our kids, deserves to go to school, to worship, to the grocery or the movies, without fear of senseless & preventable violence.”
Summer Lee has represented Pennsylvania’s 12th District in Congress since 2023 after previously serving in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2019 through 2022. She succeeded Mike Doyle as U.S. Congress member for her district and resides in Swissvale. Born in Pittsburgh in 1987 and currently aged 35, Lee holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Howard University (JD).
