When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, expectations were high for his contribution to the team's offense. However, his rookie season was hampered by injuries.
Wilson first suffered an ankle injury during the initial padded practice of training camp, which sidelined him for the remainder of camp and the preseason. He made a brief return on October 13th in a game against the Las Vegas Raiders but played only five snaps.
On October 28th, Wilson was placed on the Reserve/Injured List due to a hamstring injury. Although he was designated for return before the final regular season game, he remained on the list for its duration.
Despite these setbacks, Wilson found value in returning to practice. "My body feels better than it's felt in a long time," said Wilson. "Mentally, I can't really find a word for it. Just focused. Determined."
Wilson emphasized continuous improvement throughout his challenging season. "For me, it's just finding a way to get better every day," he stated. His dedication extended beyond physical recovery; he concentrated on enhancing his skills through film study and additional work with coaches.
Reflecting on his college career at Michigan where he had notable success, Wilson maintained a positive outlook towards self-improvement during his time off-field due to injuries. "Just building a good routine so when I get back, I can pick up better than where I left off," he explained.
