Jerome Bettis, the celebrated Hall of Fame running back, announced his retirement from professional football on February 5, 2006. His decision came moments after achieving his lifelong goal of winning a Super Bowl championship with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bettis concluded his illustrious career in dramatic fashion during Super Bowl XL at Ford Field. Standing on stage with the Lombardi Trophy in hand, he reflected on his journey and success. "It's been an incredible ride," Bettis stated. "There is always a time you have to call it quits. I played this game to win a championship. I am a champion and I think The Bus' last stop is here in Detroit."

Bettis began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1993 but found significant success following his trade to the Steelers in 1996. During his tenure with Pittsburgh, he rushed for 10,571 yards and accumulated a total of 13,662 career yards, ranking him sixth overall in NFL history.

In recognition of his achievements and contributions to the sport, Bettis was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2015.
