On January 21, 1979, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured a thrilling victory against the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. This matchup was not only a rematch of Super Bowl X but also a game remembered for its excitement and drama.
The Steelers took an early lead with Terry Bradshaw connecting on a 28-yard touchdown pass to John Stallworth. The Cowboys responded by taking a 14-7 lead after linebacker Mike Hegman stripped Bradshaw of the ball and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown.
Bradshaw quickly retaliated with another long pass to Stallworth, this time covering 75 yards to even the score. Before halftime, Rocky Bleier caught a seven-yard touchdown pass, giving the Steelers a 21-14 advantage.
In the third quarter, Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach aimed for Jackie Smith in the end zone. However, Smith's slip resulted in only a field goal for Dallas, narrowing their deficit to 21-17.
The fourth quarter saw two more touchdowns from Pittsburgh: Franco Harris ran for 22 yards and Lynn Swann caught an 18-yard pass. Despite trailing by 35-17, Dallas managed to add two touchdowns before time expired. The Steelers ultimately triumphed with a final score of 35-31, marking their third Super Bowl win.
