The Pittsburgh Steelers resumed practice on Wednesday in preparation for their upcoming AFC North clash against the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium. Linebacker Alex Highsmith will miss the game due to an ankle injury sustained against the Washington Commanders.
"We'll take it week to week in terms of his availability," stated Coach Mike Tomlin. "Excited about getting him back to us ASAP. But he won't be available this week."
In a positive development, linebacker Nick Herbig might return after being sidelined for four games with a hamstring issue. The team also strengthened its lineup by acquiring Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers last week.
"It makes it even cooler that we have a guy like Preston Smith under those circumstances," Tomlin remarked. "Pretty comfortable that Herbig is going to be back this week."
Tomlin expressed uncertainty regarding Herbig's participation level or if he will face any restrictions during the game. Herbig was fully involved in Wednesday's practice session.
"I have no idea," said Tomlin regarding Herbig's involvement. "All of that will be determined after he gets really solid with being an inclusive component of the plan, and we get solid with it as well."
Other injuries from the Commanders' game include running back Najee Harris and cornerback Donte Jackson, neither of whom practiced on Wednesday. However, Tomlin remains optimistic about their recovery.
"We had some guys that went down in-game and didn't return," noted Tomlin. "We're not anticipating a lack of availability in any of those guys."
Several players returned to action against the Commanders, including center Zach Frazier, Tyler Matakevich, and Ben Skowronek.
"It was good to have Zach Frazier back," said Tomlin. "I was pleased with how he got back on the moving train."
The complete injury report lists several players who did not participate (DNP) due to various injuries or rest days: Van Jefferson (quadricep), Najee Harris (ankle), Donte Jackson (hamstring), Alex Highsmith (ankle), Isaac Seumalo (resting veteran), MyCole Pruitt (knee), and Cameron Heyward (resting veteran). Meanwhile, Nick Herbig participated fully despite his recent hamstring injury.
