Gov. Tom Wolf (D-PA) recently reminded residents to look for affordable health insurance through Pennie, the state's online portal that connects people to financial assistance.

Pennie is an "online one-stop-shop" available for state residents who need to find health coverage and care at a reduced cost, according to a news release from the governor's office. The program's goal is to make it easier for residents to access coverage through education, assistance, and improved customer service. It also is available to anyone experiencing a qualifying life event, such as moving to a new part of the state or losing coverage from another provider. Pennie recently made improvements to the marketplace shopping experience, including additional details about 2023 plans.

"Pennie is making health care more affordable than ever here in Pennsylvania, and I urge anyone who is seeking affordable health care coverage to visit Pennie.com today to start weighing their options and to hopefully take advantage of the quality health care and services available," Wolf said in the news release. "Having quality health insurance is a fundamental right all Pennsylvanians deserve. My administration has made exploring these benefits more readily accessible, right from your own home – you can calculate potential savings, check out coverage options, and enroll in the best plan for you, your family, and your budget."

Mike Humphreys, acting insurance commissioner, encouraged residents to shop for the best plan for their individual, family, and financial needs, the news release noted. He said it is wise for people who already have health insurance to check with Pennie, as there could be a decrease in subsidies due to rate changes in a plan.

"The Wolf administration has remained dedicated to the health, well-being, and financial security of all Pennsylvanians and has taken various paths to educate consumers about the importance of health insurance before, during, and after COVID-19," Humphreys said in the news release. "Governor Wolf and I know Pennsylvanians want and deserve equal access to health coverage, including increased options within the individual market."

Open enrollment for health and dental coverage through Pennie is open from Nov. 1 to Jan. 15, according to the news release.
