Innovation: 10 patents granted in Pittsburgh in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 4

There were 10 patents granted in Pittsburgh in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is two less than the week before. Patents included a system and method for locating, identifying and counting items.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to CDA Research Group, Inc. who filed in Sept. 14, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
