The Pittsburgh Steelers commenced their mandatory minicamp with a focus on creating a more “football-like” environment, according to Coach Mike Tomlin. The session marked the first appearance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers in a Steelers uniform, bringing excitement among teammates.
“Had a really good and exciting day today,” said Tomlin. He noted that the practice was an extension of previous offseason activities but with increased intensity and complexity. “The days are a little bit longer not only in terms of us being in the building, but the length of practice.”
While linebacker T.J. Watt’s absence was noted, Tomlin expressed confidence about resolving any contractual issues. “Certainly, we’d like him to be here, but certainly not surprised by where we are,” he stated.
Aaron Rodgers’ presence has been well-received by his new teammates. Second-year receiver Roman Wilson shared his enthusiasm: “It’s pretty cool, good vibes.” Rodgers enters his 21st NFL season with numerous accolades including four Associated Press MVP awards and a Super Bowl MVP title.
Quarterback Mason Rudolph acknowledged Rodgers’ addition to the team as expected and emphasized making the most of available opportunities. “I assumed they were going to bring someone in,” Rudolph remarked.
Rookie quarterback Will Howard expressed excitement about learning from Rodgers, whom he admired growing up. “I was fired up,” said Howard about joining forces with the veteran quarterback.
Defensive line coach Karl Dunbar praised rookie linemen Derrick Harmon and Yahya Black for their athleticism during early practices despite limited physical contact until training camp begins.
The minicamp also featured special guests from the Girls Flag All-Peer Team, highlighting community engagement efforts by the Steelers in collaboration with local organizations.
