The latest edition of the “Asked and Answered” segment addressed a range of questions from Pittsburgh Steelers fans on topics including NFL rules, officiating, team history, and player utilization.

A fan from Liberty Hill, Texas asked about the possibility of Minkah Fitzpatrick returning to the Steelers after his trade to Miami. The response cited an NFL rule: “There is an NFL rule prohibiting a team from acquiring a player in a trade in the same year that team traded away that same player. A team cannot re-acquire a player it traded away until 2 full NFL seasons have passed. To use your specific example to explain the rule, since the Steelers traded Minkah Fitzpatrick in June 2025, they are prohibited from acquiring him in a trade until the 2025 and 2026 NFL seasons are over. Per that same rule, the only way the Steelers could re-acquire Fitzpatrick within the two full season period would be if he were released and the Steelers then signed him.”

Another question came from Dallas, Georgia regarding quarterback positioning in shotgun formation. The answer clarified: “There is no rule dictating the depth of the quarterback in the shotgun, and my personal opinion is that I would let Aaron Rodgers line up in the shotgun in the way in which he is most comfortable.”

Concerns about officiating were raised by Roy Perrin from Raleigh, North Carolina: “From what I have seen, I would say NFL officiating remains inconsistent and arbitrary. I don’t believe there is anything sinister going on, but I find the execution too often comes up short. The tush-push is an example.” Joe Asher from Tampa shared his frustration with past calls against Pittsburgh: recounting games where controversial decisions affected outcomes.

On recent performances, Christopher Winkler from Franklin asked if Roman Wilson’s strong game signals greater involvement ahead. The reply stated confidence depends on offensive execution: “If Aaron Rodgers gets the time to go through his progression, he will get the ball to the open man accurately and on time. Get open and then catch the ball. That’s how any receiver gets on the field and then gets targeted once he is on the field.”

Questions also covered tight end Darnell Washington’s role as a pass catcher. The response suggested Washington’s main impact may come through blocking or situational receiving opportunities based on his physical style.

A historical query led to discussion of Sam Davis’ career with Pittsburgh after joining as an undrafted rookie out of Allen College; Davis became a fixture at left guard under Chuck Noll and was one of five players remaining after Noll’s roster overhaul who went on to win Super Bowls with Pittsburgh.

Other topics included restrictions during practice—live tackling drills are not permitted during regular season practices—and why broadcasters refer to seven-point leads as “one-possession games.” It was clarified that extra point attempts do not count as separate possessions following touchdowns.

Finally, Johnny Gorman from Fort Myers asked why only one side of Steelers helmets features their logo. An extensive historical explanation traced this tradition back to equipment testing during successful seasons in 1962 and design changes involving local steel industry symbolism:
“When it comes to dates in Steelers history, none is more significant than July 8, 1933… Wanting to commemorate that success…the Steelers switched to black helmets and ended up liking how the logo popped against a dark background…when [the] orange hypocycloid was changed to red, the look was complete and remains unchanged.”
