With the NFL Draft approaching, the Pittsburgh Steelers are set to release a new episode of ‘The Standard: Defining a Steeler,’ which will be available on Wednesday, April 23 at 7 p.m. on the Steelers’ website and digital platforms.
The series aims to clarify the attributes sought by the team in selecting players both in the draft and free agency. It also showcases the legacy of players who embody the Steeler identity.
“Pittsburgh Steelers are guys that football is important to,” said General Manager Omar Khan. “To be a Steeler requires someone who has a desire to be great and to win championships.”
Interviews in the episode include contributions from General Manager Omar Khan, Assistant General Manager Andy Weidl, Director of College Scouting Dan Colbert, scouting coordinator Casey Weidl, and college scout Jim Ward.
The series details the off-season process starting with the Senior Bowl, where Coach Mike Tomlin observes players to gather insights. It also covers the NFL Combine and College Pro Days, offering a perspective on player evaluations.
The dynamic between the Weidl brothers, both working for the Steelers, and their brother Kevin with the Baltimore Ravens, is explored, highlighting their Pittsburgh upbringing.
The episode will also include segments on free agency with interviews from receiver DK Metcalf and cornerback Darius Slay, who are described as fitting the Steeler mold.
The series is scheduled for release on April 23 at 7 p.m. on Steelers.com and associated digital channels.
