The Pittsburgh Steelers have bolstered their defensive line by signing veteran defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale. The seven-year NFL player, who spent the last four seasons with the New England Patriots, started all 16 games he played last season. During that time, he amassed 52 tackles, including two for a loss, one sack, and three quarterback hits.
Ekuale’s professional journey began in 2018 when he joined the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent from Washington State. Over his career spanning 57 games, he has recorded 91 tackles and six sacks, along with eight tackles for a loss.
The Steelers’ decision to sign Ekuale follows their release of Larry Ogunjobi earlier in the free agency period. This move opens up possibilities for adjustments within their defensive lineup. Keeanu Benton may be shifted from nose tackle to defensive end to accommodate these changes.
“With the addition of a player such as Ekuale,” said a team spokesperson, “the team gains an additional option to play at nose tackle along with holdover Montravius Adams.”
The team is also considering other options in this year’s draft class to strengthen its defense further. The addition of Ekuale does not rule out future acquisitions but provides valuable depth alongside Adams.
