The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Mar. 17 the signing of safety Jaquan Brisker to a one-year contract and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day to a two-year deal as part of their ongoing free agency additions.

These signings are significant for both players and the team, with Brisker returning to his hometown and Joseph-Day joining a franchise known for its football tradition. The Steelers are recognized for honoring legendary figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in their Hall of Honor, according to the official website. The team has also achieved six Super Bowl championships in its history, as reported by the official website.

Brisker, who grew up in Wilkinsburg near Pittsburgh and attended Gateway High School, described his excitement about playing for his childhood team. “It’s going to be amazing,” said Brisker. “I love the fans. I love Terrible Towels. I love how passionate they are for the players, how they love Pittsburgh football just overall. And Renegade, the song you guys play. I love that. So, I can’t wait to turn the fans up.” He added that wearing No. 3 is especially meaningful: “It means a lot, because ever since he passed, I always wanted to honor him by how I play, by the person I am off the field… For me to honor him, on and off the field, is always amazing. It’s keeping his name alive.” Brisker’s brother wore No. 3 at Gateway High School before he was killed in 2015.

Joseph-Day brings eight seasons of NFL experience with stints at several teams including the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans. Last season he played all 17 games with notable defensive stats including tackles and sacks. “It’s just the rich history and tradition here,” said Joseph-Day about joining Pittsburgh. “They represent everything that I feel like I believe in what football is all about.” He also emphasized his readiness: “I’m just here to help make this defense better in any way that the coaches see fit.” Joseph-Day noted being closer to family as another draw: “I’ve never been this close to my family… definitely made it even more enticing.”

The Steelers contribute actively to community engagement through historical celebrations and fan experiences outlined on their official website. Fans can also visit artifacts at Acrisure Stadium’s Hall of Honor Museum according to information from their official website.

As members of the National Football League franchise system based on information from their official website, these new signings reinforce Pittsburgh’s commitment both on-field performance and connection with its local roots.
