The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Mar. 13 the signing of defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo to a one-year contract.
This move adds depth to the Steelers’ defensive line as Otomewo returns after joining the team during the 2025 offseason. Last season, he played in 12 games for Pittsburgh, recording nine tackles, including five solo stops, along with one sack and a tackle for loss.
Otomewo has appeared in 21 National Football League games over four seasons, starting two. His career totals include 18 tackles—eight solo—two tackles for loss, and one and a half sacks. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft as the 165th overall pick. In his rookie year with Minnesota, he played five games and made five tackles. He later spent two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2023-24), appearing in four games in 2024 and starting two of them. During that stint, he registered four tackles, two quarterback hits, and half a sack; his best performance came against Chicago with two tackles, a quarterback hit, and half a sack.
Before entering the NFL, Otomewo played college football at Minnesota where he participated in 46 games and finished with 81 tackles—50 solo—alongside 13.5 tackles for loss and seven and a half sacks. He earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors in 2021.
