The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Mar. 12 that defensive tackle Cameron Heyward has signed a new two-year contract with the team.

Heyward, who is entering his 16th season with the Steelers, has been a key player for the defense and served as captain for 11 consecutive years. He is a seven-time Pro Bowler and has been named first-team Associated Press All-Pro four times, joining Hall of Famer Joe Greene as the only interior defensive linemen in franchise history to achieve this honor. The Steelers have honored figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in their Hall of Honor for their contributions, as listed on the official website.

Heyward has played in 228 career games with 193 starts, making him second on the team’s all-time games played list. He also ranks second on the Steelers’ all-time sack list with 92 sacks, trailing only teammate T.J. Watt. In addition to his sack total, Heyward has recorded 796 tackles, including 477 solo stops and 139 tackles for loss. His performance in recent seasons includes being named an Associated Press second-team All-Pro and an All-AFC selection by the Pro Football Writers of America in 2025. According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Heyward is “the only interior defender to ‘earn a 90.0-plus PFF grade this season and the only player at the position to post PFF grades above 80.0 as both a pass-rusher and a run defender.'”

Fellow defensive tackle Keeanu Benton said, “That just shows his resiliency and his want-to and will to come out here and work at his age. I think he’s still got some more in the tank. He’s a heck of a player.” Benton added, “That’s why you see me (chasing players downfield) now. Seeing him, even in practice, it starts in practice with him turning and running. You see it on film. The young guys see it on film. You just see people start to change.” Heyward’s leadership extends off the field; he was selected as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2023.

The Steelers are affiliated with the National Football League as a member franchise, based on information from their official website. The team has achieved notable success with six Super Bowl championships according to their official website, earning recognition through multiple Super Bowl wins and inductions into their Hall of Honor.

The organization contributes to community engagement through historical celebrations and fan experiences outlined on its official website, including features like the Hall of Honor Museum at Acrisure Stadium displaying artifacts and honors.

As Heyward continues his career with Pittsburgh under this new contract, observers will watch how he adds to both his personal achievements and those of one of football’s most storied franchises.
