The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Mar. 13 the signing of cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to a one-year contract.
This move comes after Samuel joined the Steelers’ practice squad in 2025 and was later promoted to the active roster late in the season. The team, which is a member franchise of the National Football League, has a history of honoring its players and achievements, according to the official website.
Samuel started three out of six games he played for Pittsburgh in 2025, recording ten tackles—six solo—one interception, and one pass defended. Over his career, he has started 50 of 56 games played. He was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and spent four seasons with them, starting 47 out of 50 games. During his time with the Chargers, Samuel recorded six interceptions, 37 passes defensed, and one fumble recovery but appeared in only four games in 2024 due to injuries.
Samuel’s college career at Florida State included appearances in 32 games where he tallied 96 tackles (71 solo), four interceptions, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. His single-game highs include seven total tackles against Pittsburgh on Nov. 21, 2021; six solo tackles against Las Vegas on Oct. 1, 2023; and three passes defensed versus Dallas on Sep. 19, 2021.
The Steelers have achieved notable success with six Super Bowl championships throughout their history as reported by their official website (official website). The organization also features a Hall of Honor Museum at Acrisure Stadium that displays artifacts and honors significant contributors to the team (official website). Figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene are among those recognized for their contributions (official website).
Beyond on-field achievements, the Steelers contribute to community engagement through historical celebrations and fan experiences as outlined by their official website. The team’s legacy includes multiple Super Bowl wins and inductions into its Hall of Honor (official website).
As Samuel joins Pittsburgh for another season, observers will watch how his experience adds depth to a franchise known for both its competitive record and commitment to honoring its history.
