The Pittsburgh Steelers are seeing promising developments from two rookie offensive linemen, Zach Frazier and Mason McCormick, as they continue their strong 10-3 start to the season. Both players have shown resilience and skill, with Frazier making his 12th start and McCormick his 11th in the upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin praised their experience: “I just think there’s no shortcut to experience,” he said. “We’ve been in some hot circumstances with that young collective. They face some top-notch people.” The team will need this experience against a formidable Eagles defensive line featuring Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter.
McCormick acknowledged the challenge ahead: “Yeah, we know all about Jalen Carter,” he said. “They have a good defensive line. They’re really good across the board.”
The Steelers face a tight schedule with three games in 11 days starting Sunday, including matchups against the Ravens and Chiefs. Frazier reflected on previous experiences of playing on short weeks: “Going into that week, it was kind of crazy… Now that I’ve experienced it, I feel like going into this stretch, I’ll be a lot better because I’ve done it before.”
As they navigate these challenges together, McCormick noted the growth alongside fellow young linemen: “Playing with Zach and Brod… it’s been really cool to grow and evolve in this game together.”
In other news, Steelers’ Cam Heyward is having an impressive season at defensive tackle. Teryl Austin commented on Heyward’s performance: “He is outstanding… His impact is unbelievable for us.”
Kicker Chris Boswell continues to impress as well; he’s close to breaking records for field goals made in a single season.
Quarterback Russell Wilson also added another win to his record after defeating the Browns last week. If Wilson leads the team to two more victories this season, he’ll tie Ben Roethlisberger’s record of wins within their first 13 seasons.
Finally, several other rookies are contributing significantly to the team’s success this year. Inside linebacker Payton Wilson has been active defensively with notable stats including tackles and interceptions.
The Steelers aim for playoff qualification soon; a win over the Eagles or losses by both Dolphins and Colts could secure their spot.
