Thursday marked the arrival of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ rookie class at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. The new recruits gathered for a three-day minicamp, which begins on Friday. Throughout the day, players met with position coaches, got fitted for equipment, and had their team headshots taken.
Yahya Black, a defensive end selected in the fifth round from Iowa, expressed his eagerness to start playing. “I’m very excited,” Black stated. He emphasized his desire to demonstrate his commitment and effort on the field despite potential imperfections.
Quarterback Will Howard, drafted in the sixth round from Ohio State, echoed similar sentiments. “I’ve been chomping at the bit for this,” Howard said. Having been eager to get started, he reached out early for playbook access and is now ready to learn and have fun while working hard.
Howard aims to showcase his mental and physical capabilities during this weekend’s minicamp. He wants to establish himself as a leader within his draft class by demonstrating proficiency with the playbook and fostering relationships with teammates.
Linebacker Jack Sawyer, chosen in the fourth round also from Ohio State, intends to make a strong first impression through hard work and maximum effort on every play. “I want to show them that I’m a worker,” Sawyer commented.
For these rookies, the minicamp serves as an introduction to their professional journey with repeated practice sessions ahead. They aim to leave a positive mark as they begin integrating into their new team environment.
