The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2025 schedule has been released, with President Art Rooney II expressing satisfaction over the arrangement of games. The highlight of the season is the team’s game in Ireland on September 28 against the Minnesota Vikings. Rooney noted, “We’re happy with how the game fell (on the schedule) and where it falls on the calendar. And the great thing is that the ticket demand is already through the roof.”
Reflecting on last year’s schedule, Rooney mentioned that he preferred a more balanced distribution of division games compared to 2024 when four consecutive games were played against AFC North opponents late in the season. This year, three division games are scheduled between Weeks 6-11 and another three between Weeks 14-18.
The Steelers will start their season on September 7 with an away game against the Jets due to a scheduling conflict with a Pirates home game. Their home opener will be against Seattle on September 14, featuring DK Metcalf, who joined as a top free agent signing.
Following their historic game in Ireland, which marks only their second regular-season international match, the Steelers will have a bye week before embarking on a stretch of 13 consecutive games to close out their regular season. Rooney commented on this arrangement: “Let’s say this, we didn’t ask for the bye after the Ireland game… It is a long trip, and so it doesn’t hurt to have the bye coming after that.”
Four primetime games are set for later in the season: at Cincinnati (October 16), hosting Green Bay (October 26), at Los Angeles (November 9), and hosting Miami (December 15). Rooney expressed some reservations about night games late in the season but acknowledged it’s part of scheduling dynamics.
Rooney also addressed potential changes due to NFL’s flex scheduling policy: “They do give you a little more notice if they’re moving the day as opposed to just moving time.”
Regarding holiday schedules, while not part of this year’s lineup, Rooney believes fans have adapted well to football during holidays: “I think fans have gotten accustomed… any day of the week is fair game nowadays.”
The team plans to introduce new throwback uniforms and an alternate helmet for select games this year. The Packers’ matchup will feature these throwbacks on October 26.
Overall, Rooney shared his contentment with how things are shaping up for this upcoming season: “All in all, I like the way the schedule lays out. And it’s fairly balanced.”
