With the release of the 2025 schedule, Steelers.com is revisiting past games against their upcoming opponents. This edition focuses on a game against the Miami Dolphins.
On October 28, 2019, at Heinz Field (now Acrisure Stadium), the Pittsburgh Steelers overcame a challenging start to secure a 27-14 victory over the Miami Dolphins. The team rebounded from an early 14-point deficit by scoring 27 unanswered points.
“I thought a significant element of it is we won the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, offense and defense,” said Coach Mike Tomlin. “When you are doing that as the game wears on, it has a chance to be more significant.”
Kicker Chris Boswell narrowed the gap with a 42-yard field goal. Quarterback Mason Rudolph connected with Diontae Johnson for a 45-yard touchdown pass, cutting further into Miami’s lead. Rudolph later led a successful drive culminating in a 26-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster.
“I think it was a crucial drive there,” said Rudolph. “Not only the one to JuJu but just responding as an offense and your backs are against the wall.”
Running back James Conner contributed significantly before leaving due to injury, earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Conner recorded 23 carries for 145 yards and scored on a nine-yard run.
“Unbelievable job,” said Rudolph about Conner’s performance. “He came out hot early and it really kind of sparked us as an offense.”
The victory marked Conner’s first 100-yard game of that season and highlighted his contribution to securing important yardage for his team.
