The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed cornerback James Pierre to a one-year contract. This marks Pierre’s second stint with the team, having returned in 2024 after being released by the Washington Commanders. He initially joined the Steelers’ practice squad in September and was elevated to the active roster shortly thereafter.

In 2024, Pierre played in 15 games, starting two of them. He recorded 12 tackles, eight of which were solo efforts, and made one interception during a game against the Cleveland Browns that helped secure a victory for the Steelers.

Pierre began his NFL career with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft from Florida Atlantic University. Over four seasons, he has appeared in 81 games and started eight times. His career statistics include 71 tackles (60 solo), 11 passes defensed, three interceptions, and one forced fumble. On special teams, he has made 46 tackles.

During the 2023 season, Pierre participated mainly on special teams across 16 games and achieved seven special teams tackles. In the previous year, he appeared in all 17 games and started twice, ending with 20 tackles and an interception against the Indianapolis Colts.

In his second season with Pittsburgh in 2021, Pierre played in all 17 games with four starts and recorded a total of 37 tackles along with one interception.

Pierre’s collegiate career at Florida Atlantic saw him play in 39 games where he amassed a total of 120 tackles and three interceptions.
