The Pittsburgh Steelers introduced their three new coordinators—offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, and special teams coordinator Danny Crossman—who shared their perspectives on April 18 as they prepare for the upcoming season.
The arrival of these coordinators marks a significant transition for the team as it aims to build on its legacy of six Super Bowl championships. The Steelers are known for their physical style of play and community engagement, highlighted by historical celebrations and fan experiences according to the official website.
Angelichio expressed enthusiasm about working with the offense, noting the talent across all positions. “I’m excited about everybody,” Angelichio said in his first press conference. He added that developing a quarterback-friendly scheme is a priority: “Everything goes through the quarterback, and it will here, and it has through Coach McCarthy’s entire time of coaching. That’s really all that it is.” Angelichio emphasized that success comes from building an offense around player strengths: “You try to get concepts that they’re comfortable with…if the quarterback’s not comfortable with something, then we’re not going to do it.”
Graham outlined his approach to defense by aligning with team traditions while adapting schemes based on player abilities. “I don’t have to come up with any gimmicks here at Pittsburgh. There’s not going to be any slogans, it’s ‘Steel Curtain.’ I told the players when I first met with them, ‘We’re trying to earn our position in that tradition in 2026.’ And that’s why I’m so excited to be here,” Graham said. He also noted that larger players have historically contributed significantly to Pittsburgh’s defensive identity.
Crossman described returning as special teams coordinator as coming home due to his past connections with Pittsburgh. He praised both returning core special-teamers and new opportunities for younger players: “There are a lot of outstanding young men who have had success…there are a lot of good young men with nothing ahead but great opportunities for them.” Crossman also pointed out toughness as part of the team’s DNA: “The element of toughness has been the Pittsburgh Steelers since I was a kid…that’s the starting point to playing good football.”
The Steelers’ achievements include six Super Bowl titles according to their official website, multiple Hall of Honor inductions as per official records, and recognition within National Football League history according to their official website. The franchise maintains strong ties with fans through features like its Hall of Honor Museum at Acrisure Stadium as reported by its official site.
As preparations continue into minicamp next week, all three coordinators stressed collaboration and adaptation as key themes moving forward.
