General Manager Omar Khan and Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on April 21 that they are looking forward to the upcoming NFL Draft, which will be held in Pittsburgh. The event is set to take place across multiple locations in the city, including Acrisure Stadium and Point State Park.
The hosting of the draft in Pittsburgh is seen as a significant occasion for both the team and local community. It offers an opportunity for fans and residents to engage with football culture and celebrate the city’s ties to the sport.
“I wanted to start off by just reiterating how excited we all are about the Draft being in Pittsburgh,” Khan said at a press conference. “It’s long overdue. I always tell people how great the region is. How great the people are here in the community. It’s exciting. There’s a lot of them that are going to experience it this weekend.” He added, “So, I’m excited and I’m sure we’re going to make the NFL proud here in Pittsburgh.”
McCarthy, who grew up in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood, also shared his enthusiasm: “I think anytime Western Pennsylvania has a chance to show itself off, it’s a great thing,” he said. “I know personally, just through family and friends, what the Draft we’ll bring to our great city and to show it off. It will be exciting.” McCarthy explained that while he will be busy working during draft days, his family looks forward to enjoying local festivities: “Frankly it will be more important to my family as far as them being able to enjoy the Draft… But I think it will be great everybody gets to experience it.” He also reflected on attending last year’s draft when he was not coaching: “I had a chance to experience it for a day last year and this is going to be awesome,” McCarthy said. “So, I’m definitely excited for the week and for Pittsburgh.”
