The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their efforts to expand the game of football internationally by hosting the ‘Steelers Torneo de Tochito’ in Monterrey, Mexico. The event took place at Tec de Monterrey and featured over 500 boys and girls from ten states across Mexico competing in a flag football tournament. The participants were divided into three age groups: U-12, U-14, and U-16.
The event saw enthusiastic support from family members of the 48 participating teams. Current Steelers players Beanie Bishop and Christian Kuntz, along with alumni Max Starks and Vince Williams, attended to support the young athletes. They signed autographs and presented medals to first, second, and third-place teams in each age group.
Max Starks expressed his satisfaction with the event, stating: “The Steelers Torneo de Tochito event in Monterrey was an amazing experience for everyone in attendance – the participants, parents, as well as the Steelers players and alumni.” He noted that Monterrey demonstrated its strong support for the Steelers and praised the talent displayed by young Mexican athletes.
All participants received a Steelers t-shirt and had opportunities to take photos with and get autographs from the attending Steelers representatives. Christian Kuntz commented on his experience: “I know flag football is a popular and fast-growing sport around the world, but I was blown away by the passion, excitement and skills we got to see in Monterrey.”
In addition to the tournament, members of the Steelers organization participated in a Business Summit with local business leaders and attended a Sultanes baseball game where Max Starks and Vince Williams threw out ceremonial first pitches.
