The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected Derrick Harmon, a defensive lineman from the University of Oregon, with the 21st pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Harmon described the experience as both thrilling and bittersweet, as his mother, Tiffany Saine, is currently hospitalized and could not share the moment with him. Harmon expressed his intention to visit her afterward to share the news.
Harmon credited his support system, his “village,” for helping him reach this point, emphasizing the strong backing he receives from family and friends. Steelers Coach Mike Tomlin praised Harmon, noting he possesses “Steelers DNA” and highlighting Harmon’s potential in strengthening the team’s defense.
Harmon’s collegiate career was marked by significant achievements. In his single season with Oregon, he started all 14 games and earned second-team Associated Press All-America honors. Prior to Oregon, he attended Michigan State, contributing in 28 games with notable statistics.
Tomlin commended Harmon’s performance, both on and off the field, acknowledging his leadership skills and intellect. Harmon made a lasting impression on the Steelers during his pre-draft interactions, solidifying their decision to draft him.
