On December 31, 2023, at Lumen Field, the Pittsburgh Steelers secured a victory over the Seattle Seahawks with a score of 30-23. The win was crucial for keeping their postseason hopes alive. Coach Mike Tomlin commented on the team’s performance: “We were playing a team that was desperate like we were, and we didn’t blink,” adding that he appreciated and congratulated his team for their effort.
The offensive line played a significant role in this victory. Tomlin noted, “I thought the offensive line provided the wave that we rode.” He emphasized how they managed to control key aspects of the game, such as third downs and minimizing crowd influence.
The Steelers’ offense was effective, amassing 468 yards. Quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 18 of 24 passes for 274 yards in his second consecutive start. Tomlin praised Rudolph’s performance: “I thought he did a good job.”
The running game also excelled with Najee Harris rushing for 122 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. Jaylen Warren contributed with 75 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries. Tomlin commended both players: “I thought he was determined,” referring to Harris.
Harris highlighted the offense’s progress throughout the season under interim offensive coordinator Eddie Faulkner and quarterback coach/play caller Mike Sullivan: “It shows the progression we have shown, the grit that we have, the resiliency.”
Receiver George Pickens made an impact with seven receptions totaling 131 yards. His performance included remarkable catches that have become expected from him. Tomlin remarked on Pickens’ ability: “We’re used to seeing George make plays like that.”
Defensive tackle Cameron Heyward acknowledged the offense’s contribution: “We haven’t been our best defense, but to have an offense that was going out there and giving us 30 points… It’s a team game.”
Overall, this game demonstrated teamwork and resilience from both sides of the ball for Pittsburgh.
