An offseason overhaul for the Pittsburgh Steelers has seen significant changes, particularly in key positions such as quarterback and wide receiver. General Manager Omar Khan addressed these developments at Saint Vincent College as the team reported for training camp.
“Obviously, coming off of last year, which was disappointing the way it ended, we had a plan, an idea of what we want,” Khan stated. “We had a vision of what we wanted this team to look like. To tell you that we laid out a plan and everything happened 100 percent, that wouldn’t be honest of me to say that.”
The Steelers have acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers after extensive negotiations. Khan expressed confidence in their approach despite external scrutiny. “Some people might view my patience or our patience as a weakness but we view it as a strength,” he said.
Training camp will determine how new additions like tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey will fit into the team’s strategy. “That’s really what training camp is, to help us sort all that out,” Khan noted.
Khan emphasized maintaining future draft capital while making current acquisitions. “We’re staring at probably 10 to 12 (draft) picks next year… It’s important, we’re aware of it,” he explained.
As training camp begins, Khan remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. “I’m excited to watch these guys perform on the field and see how our team comes together,” he said.
The goal remains clear: “Our goal is to win a Super Bowl so we’re building this team to win a Super Bowl this year.”
