LATROBE, Pa. – The Pittsburgh Steelers have returned to Saint Vincent College for their training camp, marking a new phase in their offseason plan. Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed that all players reported before the deadline on Wednesday, with the exception of Isaac Seumalo, who is on the Active/NFI List due to a soft-tissue injury.
The team welcomes several new faces this season, including Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey, Darius Slay, and others. “It’s good to see this collection of talent that we’ve been able to assemble even into the summer,” said Tomlin. He emphasized the importance of developing both individual and collective football skills.
Tomlin highlighted the challenge of integrating new players with established NFL resumes into the team’s culture. “This team-development process is development in a lot of ways: as individuals from a knowledge perspective… but it’s also as a collective,” he stated.
A key focus will be incorporating three veteran cornerbacks into a secondary without Minkah Fitzpatrick. Tomlin recalled Ramsey’s high ranking during the 2016 NFL Draft and confirmed his starting role in 2025. “Make no mistake, those top three corners – Jalen Ramsey, Slay, and Joey Porter Jr. – they’re going be on the field,” said Tomlin.
The trade involving Fitzpatrick also brought Jonnu Smith to the team. Described by Tomlin as “a football player first and a positional player second,” Smith adds versatility to the roster.
Aaron Rodgers’ addition is another significant change for the Steelers. “He’s a workaholic,” noted Tomlin, expressing confidence in Rodgers’ integration into the team while planning limited practice time for him to elevate opportunities for other players like Will Howard.
The Steelers are set to begin their journey toward what they hope will be a successful 2025 season.
