The recent “Asked and Answered” column, dated June 13, 2025, features responses to various inquiries from Steelers fans. These opinions do not reflect the views of the Steelers organization.
David Pacy from Sherman, NY questioned whether true NFL greatness is linked to being part of a Super Bowl-winning team. The response highlighted that while winning championships can positively impact a player’s legacy, football remains a team sport. It would be unfair to place championship responsibilities on one or two individuals alone. An article by Bryan DeArdo for CBSsports.com was cited, listing notable players who never won a Super Bowl but are still considered among the greatest in NFL history.
Henry Lacayo from Miami, FL inquired about the Steelers’ training camp schedule and if they would practice before their preseason game against the Buccaneers. The final day of public practice at Saint Vincent College is set for August 12, with the game scheduled for August 16 at Acrisure Stadium.
Jason Praster from San Antonio, TX asked if “defense wins championships” still holds true in today’s NFL. The response referenced Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles as an example where defense played a crucial role in securing victory.
Chuck Miller from Green Island, NY posed a question regarding Chris Boswell’s field goal record. There was no existing stat for cumulative distance of all field goals combined in a single season.
Steve Dover from Las Vegas, NV sought to identify which Steelers receiver had the best single season ever. Antonio Brown’s performances in 2014 and 2017 were noted as exceptional seasons based on statistics and individual awards.
Daniel Keeter from Bakersfield, CA tried to locate a specific clip involving Joe Greene and Fran Tarkenton during Monday Night Football on October 4, 1976.
Daniel Yeckley from Cornelius, NC asked about rep distribution during OTAs and rookie Will Howard’s opportunities. Concerns about repetitions typically arise when training camp begins at Saint Vincent College.
Joseph Maggio from Fort Mill, SC expressed surprise over Steve Samick’s question about tanking games. While tanking isn’t explicitly prohibited by NFL rules, it could violate integrity rules if determined intentional.
Nate Klein from Manassas, VA discussed Max Hurleman’s potential versatility within different positions on the team. Versatility could help Hurleman make an impression during training camp and preseason.
George Bassett from Laguna Woods, CA commented on perceptions of athleticism among NFL players. He emphasized that making an NFL roster signifies star-level talent given the small number of active players compared to the overall population.
