The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Mar. 14 the official signings of wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., cornerback Jamel Dean, and running back Rico Dowdle. The team said these new additions bring a physical style of play that aligns with the Steelers’ traditional approach.

The announcement is significant as it addresses key positions while emphasizing the team’s ongoing commitment to toughness and versatility. The Steelers have a history of seeking players who not only fill positional needs but also embody the franchise’s values.

Pittman, acquired through a trade, is known for his size and ability to make contested catches. He has played six seasons in the National Football League, recording two seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards and setting a career high with seven touchdown receptions in 2025. “Being that guy who catches passes but also blocks his tail off, that opens up extra yards,” Pittman said. “Maybe instead of a 5-yard run play it turns into a 30-yard run play or turns into an explosive run and then that sets up the pass game.” He added, “And just showing my teammates that I’m not here just to catch the ball and that I’m willing to do all that dirty work, too.” Pittman explained his standard: “That comes with me just trying to show the quarterback that if he throws it, I’ll catch it no matter what. Being able to fight for that football, I feel like that just gives the quarterback confidence to throw you the ball. And more targets leads to more yards. And more yards, hopefully, leads to more wins.”

Dowdle joined as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and became a starter in recent seasons with both Dallas and Carolina. He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards each year since becoming a starter and averaged 4.6 yards per carry while catching nearly forty passes per season. Describing his playing style Dowdle said: “I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s angry,” adding, “I just think I run physical and try to impose my will on a defense… I’ve always just had that mindset to run through a guy since I was little.”

Dean started several games during Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl-winning season in 2020 before becoming a regular starter in subsequent years. Known for his speed as well as willingness to tackle on defense, Dean said: “You play defense so you gotta be able to cover and tackle at the same time… If you don’t want to tackle you’re going to have a long game.” He continued: “I’d rather set the tone early, ‘Hey, I’m willing to tackle.'”

The Steelers are recognized members of the National Football League according to their official website. The franchise has achieved six Super Bowl championships as reported by their official website and honors notable figures such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in its Hall of Honor according to their official website. Community engagement remains important for the organization through historical celebrations and fan experiences as outlined on their official website, including displays at their Hall of Honor Museum at Acrisure Stadium according to their official website.

With these new signings complementing an already storied roster—recognized through multiple Super Bowl victories and Hall of Honor inductions as per their official website—the Steelers continue building toward future success.
