The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a series of roster changes to comply with the NFL’s requirement to reduce their team to 53 players by the Tuesday deadline.
On Tuesday, the team waived six players: defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal, linebacker Eku Leota, defensive backs Beanie Bishop Jr. and Sebastian Castro, offensive lineman Dylan Cook, and wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams. Two additional players were waived/injured: defensive lineman Domenique Davis and wide receiver Brandon Johnson.
Five vested veterans had their contracts terminated. These include defensive backs Chuck Clark and James Pierre, offensive lineman Max Scharping, running back Trey Sermon, and wide receiver Robert Woods. Defensive back Cory Trice Jr. was placed on the Reserve/Injured List (Designated for Return).
Earlier in the week, on Monday, August 25, further moves included terminating veteran punter Cameron Johnston. Other releases that day affected both offense and defense across several positions.
Initial cuts began on Friday, August 22. Among those released were linebacker Kenny Willekes; defensive backs Kam Alexander, Quindell Johnson, Kyler McMichael, Mikey Victor; offensive linemen Doug Nester and Julian Pearl; quarterback Logan Woodside; running back Evan Hull; tight end Kevin Foelsch; and long snapper Jake McQuaide.
