The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed 16 players to their practice squad, all of whom participated in the team’s training camp and preseason. The group includes five defensive backs: Beanie Bishop, Sebastian Castro, D’Shawn Jamison, James Pierre, and Daryl Porter; two defensive linemen: Kyler Baugh and DeMarvin Leal; one linebacker: Julius Welschof; two offensive linemen: Dylan Cook and Steven Jones; two running backs: Lew Nichols and Trey Sermon; one tight end: JJ Galbreath; and three wide receivers: Max Hurleman, Ke’Shawn Williams, and Robert Woods.
Defensive tackle Kyler Baugh joined the Steelers during training camp after entering the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the New Orleans Saints following the 2024 NFL Draft. He has also spent time with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons practice squad. At the University of Minnesota, Baugh appeared in 26 games over two seasons.
Beanie Bishop Jr., a defensive back, originally signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 draft. Bishop played in all 17 regular season games last year, starting six times. “Bishop finished the 2024 season second on the team with four interceptions, while adding 39 tackles, 25 of them solo stops, seven passes defensed, two tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery. Three of those four interceptions Bishop had on the season came in October, when he was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month with three interceptions in two games,” according to team information.
Safety Sebastian Castro signed as an undrafted free agent following this year’s draft. He played at Iowa for five seasons.
Offensive tackle Dylan Cook was added through a Reserve/Future contract after spending part of last season on Pittsburgh’s injured list and practice squad.
Tight end J.J. Galbreath also joined as an undrafted free agent after playing at South Dakota.
Receiver Max Hurleman was brought in after a tryout during rookie minicamp this year.
D’Shawn Jamison returns to Pittsburgh’s practice squad after previous stints with San Francisco and Carolina.
Steven Jones joined through a Reserve/Future contract after signing as an undrafted free agent with Jacksonville post-2024 draft.
De’Marvin Leal was drafted by Pittsburgh in 2022 and has played in 28 games over three seasons but missed most of last year due to injury.
Running back Lew Nichols arrived during training camp this year. Nichols led college football in rushing yards in 2021 while at Central Michigan.
James Pierre re-signed for another stint with Pittsburgh earlier this year. “Pierre returned to the Steelers for a second stint in 2024…He appeared in 15 games in 2024, starting two…Pierre was originally signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following the 2020 NFL Draft out of Florida Atlantic.”
Daryl Porter joined during training camp after being released by Buffalo. He started his college career at West Virginia before transferring to Miami.
Running back Trey Sermon was signed following a tryout at rookie minicamp this year and brings experience from Indianapolis, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
Linebacker Julius Welschof joined via Reserve/Future contract after playing at Charlotte and Michigan colleges.
Wide receiver Ke’Shawn Williams signed as an undrafted free agent following this year’s draft after playing at Wake Forest and Indiana.
Veteran wide receiver Robert Woods was acquired as an unrestricted free agent during the offseason. “Woods is the fourth active player in the NFL with at least 7,500 career receiving yards to catch a touchdown pass with at least four different teams.”
