Since the end of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made several roster changes. The team has signed veteran receiver Robert Woods to a one-year contract. Woods is entering his 13th NFL season and has played in 171 games, starting 145 of them. His career statistics include 683 receptions for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns.
Woods recently played for the Houston Texans during the past two seasons, participating in 29 games with 15 starts. In that period, he recorded 60 receptions for 629 yards and one touchdown.
The Steelers have also waived linebacker Thomas Rush and released defensive tackle Montravius Adams Sr., as well as defensive back Ryan Watts, who was a sixth-round draft pick in 2024. Watts spent last season on the Reserve/Injured List. “Statement from GM Omar Khan on Ryan Watts,” read a tweet from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ official account.
In this year’s draft, the Steelers had seven selections, focusing mainly on defense with five picks. Additionally, they have agreed to terms with seven undrafted free agents post-draft.
The Steelers’ draft picks include Derrick Harmon (Defensive Tackle), Kaleb Johnson (Running Back), Jack Sawyer (Linebacker), Yahya Black (Defensive End), Will Howard (Quarterback), Carson Bruener (Linebacker), and Donte Kent (Cornerback).
Derrick Harmon was chosen in the first round after a successful college stint at Oregon. Kaleb Johnson, picked in the third round from Iowa, had an impressive career with significant rushing yardage and touchdowns. Jack Sawyer came from Ohio State with strong defensive stats over his college career.
Yahya Black joins from Iowa as a fifth-round pick; he contributed solidly to his college team’s defense. Will Howard led Ohio State to major victories as their quarterback and was selected in the sixth round. Carson Bruener, selected in the seventh round, follows in his father’s footsteps into professional football after playing at Washington. Lastly, Donte Kent arrives from Central Michigan after being named All-Mid-American Conference multiple times.
Among undrafted free agents joining are Sebastian Castro (Safety) from Iowa and J.J. Galbreath (Tight End) from South Dakota. Ben Sauls is familiar with Pittsburgh having kicked for Pitt Panthers since 2020.
Roc Taylor comes aboard as a wide receiver from Memphis while DJ Thomas-Jones will add depth as a fullback out of South Alabama. Aiden Williams joins as an offensive guard hailing from Minnesota-Duluth, bringing recognition from NSIC All-Conference selections.
Finally, Ke’Shawn Williams will be another wide receiver option for the team after transferring to Indiana for his final collegiate season following four years at Wake Forest.
