The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed several fan questions in the latest edition of “Asked and Answered,” covering topics ranging from free agency to team history and player development.

A list of restricted and unrestricted free agents was provided. Restricted free agents include Ryan McCollum, Jeremiah Moon, Esezi Otomewo, and Corliss Waitman. Unrestricted free agents are Calvin Austin III, Chuck Clark, Jack Driscoll, Kyle Dugger, Daniel Ekuale, Kenneth Gainwell, Connor Heyward, Cole Holcomb, Miles Killebrew, Isaiahh Loudermilk, Dean Lowry, Scotty Miller, Donald Parham, Andrus Peat, Jabrill Peppers, James Pierre, Aaron Rodgers, Asante Samuel Jr., Max Scharping, Isaac Seumalo, Adam Thielen, Skylar Thompson, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

There have been no updates on player health status since coach Mike Tomlin did not hold the usual end-of-season press conference. As a result, there is no new information about players who finished the season on injured reserve.

In response to a question about the evolution of NFL protective equipment over time—highlighted by references to the large shoulder pads worn in the 1970s—the answer explained that gear has become lighter and more durable. The Steelers’ long history includes recognition for legendary players such as Terry Bradshaw and Joe Greene in their Hall of Honor for their contributions to the franchise’s success (https://www.steelers.com/history/hall-of-fame/).

Fan engagement was also discussed. One submission noted that while vocal critics exist among fans after a difficult season, many supporters remain optimistic or patient regarding coaching changes. The Steelers contribute to community engagement through historical celebrations and fan experiences as detailed on their official website (https://www.steelers.com/history/hall-of-honor/).

On roster strategy at wide receiver if Aaron Rodgers returns next season—and his preference for veteran receivers—Steelers President Art Rooney said: “We don’t know what Aaron’s plans are right now … We’ll see where Aaron is, and we’ve left the door open, but obviously we all have to sit down and see if that makes sense.” He added that both sides would need to consider their options carefully before any decisions are made.

Questions about league rules ahead of free agency were answered with specific language from NFL regulations: “During the period beginning at noon ET on March 9 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. ET on March 11 clubs are permitted to contact … certified agents of players who will become unrestricted free agents upon expiration of their 2025 contracts … No prospective unrestricted free agent is permitted to execute a contract with a new club until 4 p.m. ET on March 11.” However, it was noted that unofficial contact may occur before this window opens.

Regarding quarterback skills like escapability versus arm talent or football intelligence—especially after Rodgers took several hits last year—it was pointed out that recent successful quarterbacks such as Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford do not rely primarily on mobility. Instead, quick routes by receivers can help protect quarterbacks from unnecessary hits.

On alternate uniforms for 2026—including Color Rush or throwback options—the answer indicated these decisions are typically made after the NFL releases its regular season schedule in mid-May. Teams generally wear special uniforms only during home games.

Fan perspectives varied about expectations for next season; some expressed willingness to accept missing playoffs if it meant better draft positioning in future years. Others insisted on competing each year rather than rebuilding by design.

Addressing running back depth going into next season: Jaylen Warren remains under contract through 2026 at a reasonable salary and offers versatility. Kenneth Gainwell was named team MVP by teammates but will become an unrestricted free agent soon. Kaleb Johnson struggled as a rookie but may get another opportunity under new coaching staff due to his college performance at Iowa. If Gainwell is re-signed alongside Warren atop the depth chart at running back (RB), significant additions via draft or free agency seem unlikely unless circumstances change.

The Steelers’ rich legacy includes six Super Bowl championships (https://www.steelers.com/history/super-bowls/) and multiple inductions into their Hall of Honor (https://www.steelers.com/history/super-bowls/). Fans can learn more about this history through exhibits at Acrisure Stadium’s Hall of Honor Museum (https://www.steelers.com/museum/). The organization is also recognized as a longstanding member franchise of the National Football League (https://www.steelers.com/history/hall-of-fame/).
